Rev. Orv Halley, 66, was our friend, mentor, pastor and encourager. He passed away after a short fight with pancreatic cancer. He has been the Mission Director of HGM for the past three years and is an irreplaceable loss. He was much loved by all the missionaries. Not only was he a capable administrator, but a kind pastor.
He was our pastor and Perspectives on the World Christian Movement coordinator back in 1988 and has been a mentor ever since. He did all of our premarital counseling (We needed lots of help.), and then married us twenty years ago.
Orv, along with his wife, Roberta, faithfully served as a local pastor until he retired and began his second career as a father to missionaries. Orv’s love for his job was evident. It would be incredible to know how many lives he impacted for the Kingdom of God!
He was a tall man who filled the room with laughter, but he would gladly reach down and give children and adults alike a warm, encouraging embrace. We will miss him.
