“When a poor person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed.” —Mother Teresa
There are two problems regarding food in the world. One is that people do not have access to food, because of famine or other crisis. The other is that they cannot afford the food that is available.
The world can produce enough food to provide every person with more than 2 700 calories per day. Yet more than 800 million people in the developing world suffer from chronic undernutrition. Lack of essential energy and protein stunts the bodies, minds and hopes of some 200 million children.
"There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread."
—Mahatma Gandhi
