On any given night, there are over 35,000 refugee children on their own in Europe, having lost their parents, temporarily or forever. The refugee camps where many are “living” resemble the conditions of concentration camps during World War II.
There are 100,000 children living on the streets in Mumbai, India. Some are literal orphans, while many are simply “economic orphans.” Their parents cannot provide for them.
Over 200,000 children and teenagers are living on the streets in America. 40% of these homeless are LGBT young people who have been rejected by family and friends. Approximately 40% of homeless men are veterans, many of whom suffer from mental illness and substance abuse problems.
